After a week of back and forth from the city of Cleveland on the Cudell Gazebo, the Smithsonian taking interest, then pulling back, what's next?

People who live near the park told NewsChannel 5 they hope the gazebo stays.

"We see this, we remember him. We walk through this park and don't see that? New people come to this park? They'll never know," Billy Clark said.

Santorio Hector, another Cleveland resident, said he agreed.

"The city needs to make a decision," Hector added.

A spokeswoman with the Smithsonian told NewsChannel 5, while they never wanted the gazebo for the museum, they requested a delay in demolition on behalf of another organization, Black Lives Matter.

She said the group wants the gazebo  preserved.

NewsChannel 5 reached out to Black Lives Matter and haven't heard back for a comment.

Cleveland city officials would not go on camera, but said they're giving the group 30 days to pitch ideas for the gazebo.
