An Avon lake family is questioning the city’s culling practices. Mark Piscioneri said Sunday morning, he and his wife saw a dying deer in their backyard.

“She kept lifting her head up and crying,” said Piscioneri.

He said the deer had been shot. About 15 minutes after seeing it, he said it died.

“It was bleeding from the mid-section,” said Piscioneri. “There was a blood spot where it died.”

He said his wife had complained to the city about its culling practices.

“What happens if one is shot and not killed outright and goes running through the neighborhood,” said Piscioneri. “The city says the culling is taking place before sunrise that was at least 2 hours after sunrise.”

Ultimately, he said he would like better communication from the city; he wants to know exactly when culling will take place.
