CLEVELAND - The Cleveland Division of Police Use of Deadly Force Investigation team is currently investigating a shooting involving a Geneva on the Lake police officer.
A man died after he was shot by the officer who also works as a private security guard, according to Cleveland police. The Cuyahoga County Medical Examiner's Office identified the decease as Kenneth Thompson, 47 of Cleveland Heights.
The shooting occurred at 1435 East Blvd. at about 1 a.m.
A police spokesman said the preliminary investigation reveals that the officer went to check on a large group of individuals creating a disturbance in the hallway area of an apartment building.
Upon investigating, the officer observed a man and woman struggling. The man pointed a gun at the officer, he said. The officer observed the laser point of the man's gun on his lower extremities. The officer ordered the man to drop the weapon, which he refused to do The officer then fired at the suspect. The suspect died at the scene.
