Cleveland ranks No. 14 for top transit systems in the country, survey finds

CLEVELAND - Cleveland's public transportation falls in line with some of the country's top transit systems, making it fairly easy to ditch your car, a survey found.

A survey conducted by Walk Score , a website that scores homes and neighborhoods for walkability and life without a person vehicle, found that Cleveland ranked No. 14 – one step below Denver and several steps above other major cities like Dallas (16), Austin (21), Las Vegas (23), and Columbus (24).

"Transit Score measures how well a location is served by public transit by assigning a ‘usefulness' value to nearby transit routes based on frequency, route type, and distance to the nearest stop on the route," the Walk Score said.

The survey cited these Cleveland neighborhoods as being the most walkable, and included a score (out of 100) for each:

1) Downtown (88)
2) University District (77)
3) Ohio City (76)
4) Detroit Shaker (75)
5) Buckeye Shaker (73)
6) Goodrich-Kirtland Park (72)
7) Tremont (72)

Walk Score said 25 percent of Cleveland residents live in an area that has a score of 70 or higher.

Overall in the survey, New York landed the top spot, while Raleigh placed last in the 25-city ranking.
