Cleveland Police investigating two overnight homicides Saturday

CLEVELAND - Cleveland Police are investigating two homicides that happened late Friday night into early Saturday morning.
The first call came in around 11:18 p.m. Friday for a male shot in the area of Lakeview Road and St. Clair Avenue on Cleveland's east side.
The victim, identified as 34-year-old Bruce Jernigan was found in the 600 block of East 109th Street on sidewalk and was pronounced deceased early Saturday morning. Preliminary investigation reveals that a male was traveling in the area in a vehicle when he was approached by three males, including Jernigan who stood in front of the vehicle and produced a handgun. The driver then exited his vehicle and fired Jernigan, striking him in the face and the other suspects returned fire. Jernigan was pronounced dead at the scene.
The driver of vehicle holds a CCW permit and one male has been arrested in the incident.
The second shooting incident happened around 2:30 a.m. Saturday in the area of East 49th and Hamilton Avenue.
Upon arrival to the scene police found the male victim, 22-year-old Ronnie L. Bryant of Cleveland, lying in the street with a gunshot wound. Bryant was taken to Metro Hospital where he later died as result of his injuries.
The preliminary investigation reveals that two groups of males were involved in an argument inside of a bar. Bryant was among one of the groups. The groups were escorted outside of the bar by security. Shots were heard from outside. The groups of males fled the scene.
Both victims are reported as suspected homicides. The cases do not appear to be related.
