Cleveland police arrested two people thought to be connected with a string of aggravated robberies after a east side pursuit with a stolen car early Tuesday morning.

The chase started just after 3 a.m. and circled the east side of Cleveland between East 55th and the East Cleveland border eventually ending around 3:15 a.m. at a vacant lot on East 76th Street just north of St. Clair Avenue.

Police at the scene told News 5 that there were three people inside the stolen car that jumped out and ran after crashing in the vacant lot. A man and woman were quickly arrested by pursuing officers.

A Cleveland Police K-9 unit was used at the scene to search for a third suspect. The K-9 and officers searched the neighborhood and a vacant building but was unable to find the third person.

A shotgun was found inside the car. Police think the weapon was used in a number of armed robberies that police said may have been happening for weeks.

Police said they decided to chase because of the violent nature of the robberies and their confidence that they had the right car and suspects.

News 5 will continue to follow this developing story.
