This summer, the Cleveland Metropolitan School District tested faucets and water fountains in all CMSD buildings built before 2002, the district reported on Thursday.

The district said the faucets and fountains were turned off to enable water testing as part of summer building maintenance. This was said to be a safety measure to ready all buildings for the 2016-2017 school year. It was also said to be "a precaution that a lot of large city school districts and even some smaller school districts in the area are taking."

To make sure testing was accurate and to raise awareness of the importance of water testing across Cleveland, the district worked with the City Health Department as well as the Cleveland Water Department.

The district has offered information on its website for families looking for testing for their homes and for those who want to know which buildings will be tested.
