The sale of Cleveland during next summer's Republican National Convention requires the very thing that sold the Site Selection Committee on Cleveland: people.
More specifically, volunteers to make sure the impressions of the 50,000 visitors is a positive one.
"We think the number will be around 6,000," said local Host Committee CEO Dave GIlbert. "We're already at 3,800 people signed up, which is fantastic, but it's still a long way to go. If we look historically we're way ahead of where other cities have, which is fantastic."
"We will be in the spring sending things out to people where they can actually sign up for where they want to be, what day, what time, all those kinds of things.
"But critical that we have the people from our community that are there to be part of the experience for all of these delegates and media and other official people who will be here and make it as welcoming an atmosphere as possible," he said.
Volunteers can offer their time on the host committee's website.
While the race for the Republican nomination for president has generated political debate, the host committee points out that this is about getting volunteers to support Cleveland, not a political party or candidate.
"This isn't about red or blue, it's about green," said Gilbert. "And that's what this means for Cleveland. This is about our future and an incredibly rare opportunity to showcase where we are as a community and help us move ourselves forward regardless of party affiliation."
