Cleveland Foundation to offer free movies at Playhouse Square for August centennial gift

CLEVELAND - The Cleveland Foundation is offering free movies at Playhouse Square for its August centennial gift.

Tickets are available at clevelandfoundation.org/cinema or by phone at 216-241-6000 until they last. As of Monday, Aug. 11, few tickets remained available, the Foundation reported.

  • Thursday, Aug. 21 at 7:30 p.m. – Indiana Jones: Raiders of the Lost Ark
  • Friday, Aug. 22 at 7:30 p.m. – The Karate Kid
  • Saturday, Aug. 23 at 3 p.m. – The Sound of Music
  • Saturday, Aug. 23 at 8 p.m. – Singin’ in the Rain
  • Sunday, Aug. 24 at 2 p.m. – The Muppets Take Manhattan

Guests are encouraged to dress like their favorite characters in the movies and participate in a pre-movie parade. Sing-alongs will be held one hour prior to each showing. A red carpet will be rolled out for photos before each movie.

The Foundation is giving gifts to the Cleveland community every month in 2014 as part of the organization's centennial celebration.

In January, it was a free day on the Greater Cleveland RTA;  in February, free admission to the Great Lakes Science Center and the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame and Museum;  and in March, free admission to the Cleveland International Film Festival.
