Cleveland councilman's son Kevin Conwell, Jr. arrested and charged with felonious assault

CLEVELAND - The son of a Cleveland councilman was arrested after police said he hit another man with a hammer during a fight early Saturday morning.

Kevin Conwell, Jr., 29, was charged with felonious assault and he pleaded not guilty in court this morning. He had bonded out of jail over the weekend.

A police officer spotted two men fighting near the 1400 block of St. Clair Avenue and detained them. One was bleeding from the head and said that Conwell, Jr. had hit him in the head with a hammer.

Conwell's father, Kevin Conwell, represents Ward 9 (Little Italy, Glenville, University Circle) on Cleveland City Council.
