Police responding to a domestic violence report in Cleveland nabbed an unexpected suspect.

An alligator was found in the home on the 7700 block of Cornelia Avenue in Cleveland after the man in the home refused to allow police come in, they said.

A SWAT team was called out and a standoff ensued before the man was arrested. The alligator was turned over to Animal Control.

Ed Jamison, Cleveland Chief Animal Control Officer, said that it's illegal to own an alligator in Cleveland. Still, this is the second they've found in the city this year.

The animal is 5 to 6-foot long and "very dangerous," said Jamison.

Animal Control will contact the state to help get the animal sent to a rescue, likely in the South, where the animal is more adapted.
