CLEVELAND - The driver of the SUV that hit and killed 9 year old Miguel Torres on Cleveland's west side Friday night turned herself in to police, and now police have released her.
Sunday afterrnoon the Cleveland Accident Investigation Unit Detectives conferred with the City Prosecutor's and 20-year-old Adriana E. Flores of Cleveland was released pending further investigation.
Cleveland police arrested Flores with aggravated vehicular homicide and hit skip on Saturday after she turned herself in around 1:30am.
Police say the accident happened at about 7:40 p.m. near the intersection of West 98th Street and Almira Avenue, which is close to Almira Elementary School and the boy's home.
Police said the 9-year-old was playing and chasing after another child who was on a bike. As they tried to cross the street, Torres was hit by Flores's Chevy Blazer. He was transported to MetroHealth Medical Center, where he died.
"After hitting the victim, the driver of the Blazer stopped, got out of the vehicle, prayed over the juvenile and then left the scene," police said in a news release.
The child riding the bike was not hurt.
Saturday night Miguel's mother talked with NewsChannel 5 and could not hold back her emotion or her love for her beloved son.
Bobbie Reed-Torres says "Miguel loved life. Miguel loved people. Miguel loved his community. I didn't realize how many people were touched by my son. I just want them to know we appreciate their prayers and their support."
