CLEVELAND - The Cuyahoga County Medical Examiner has identified 26-year-old Rafeal Carter, of Eastlake, as the victim of a shooting that happened Monday on Cleveland's east side.
Carter was sitting in a gold Saturn on Saywell Avenue near East 123rd Street at about 10:37 a.m. Monday when a man walked up and fired shots through the passenger window, hitting Carter in the stomach area.
Carter was transported to MetroHealth Medical Center, where he died a short time later.
Police later learned the victim tried to drive away and crashed his car at East 123rd and Chesterfield Avenue.
Investigators said after the shooting, the suspect, wearing a black hooded sweatshirt with white stripe, left in a two-tone Buick Century and drove north on East 123rd Street. Police searched the area for the gunman's car, but were unable to find it.
