Cleveland police are searching for two teenagers who attacked and robbed a 39-year-old woman who was walking home from her job in the Tremont neighborhood.

The attack took place in the 2300 block of Kenilworth Avenue just before midnight on Oct. 18.

Cleveland police sergeant Jenifer Ciaccia told News 5 the victim was hit in the face and fell to the ground before she was robbed of nearly $2,000 in personal belongings.

"She was hit in the face and knocked to the ground, and then the suspect robbed her at gunpoint," said Ciaccia.  "They also pistol-whipped her in the face."

Police said the victim had to be taken to the hospital for her facial injuries after the robbers took her purse, backpack, wallet and more.

Ciaccia said people on foot are vulnerable if they aren't aware of their surroundings at all time.

"Have a good handle on your own personal safety," said Ciaccia.  "

"Make sure that you are aware of your surroundings.  Don't be texting or looking at your phone or anything like that. That you do know what's going on around you, and also to travel in groups when that's possible."

Police only have a vague description of the suspects and are hoping surveillance video from the neighborhood will get them some leads.
