NewsChannel 5 to air special presentation on Building Better Neighborhoods project Friday night

CLEVELAND - NewsChannel 5 will air a half hour special Friday night at 8:30 on its 2014 initiative, Building Better Neighborhoods: Keeping You Safe Where You Live.

This on your side project is connecting 25 different cities, towns, villages or townships in Northeast Ohio to its residents. In turn, it connects residents with city officials, their police departments and each other.

In the half hour special, viewers will learn more about the project, how it will work, and how each community will connect to residents by inviting 5 neighborhoods in for a safety forum or to form block watch neighborhoods. Residents in each of the communities will then have an opportunity to vote on a street or neighborhood, with the largest vote getter, becoming NewsChannel 5's featured neighborhood. That neighborhood will get a Building Better Neighborhoods sign and a visit from one of our anchors later this spring.

Viewers will also see how partnering with the free social network app, Nextdoor is connecting neighbors to each other and why the Ohio Attorney General's office has also agreed to endorse this project.

NewsChannel 5 anchors, Danita Harris, Chris Flanagan, Lee Jordan, Leon Bibb and Tracy Carloss will also take us to 5 of our 25 communities to show viewers what's unique, quirky and special about each.

Building Better Neighborhoods: Keeping You Safe Where You Live is sponsored by Great Clips. Watch Friday, March 21 at 8:30 PM to learn more.
