AKRON, Ohio - The search for a new president for the University of Akron has come to an end as its Board of Trustees named Scott L. Scarborough the 16th president Thursday evening.
He will take over for Dr. Luis M. Proenza, who is retiring, on July 1.
According to the University of Akron website, Scarborough is leaving the University of Toledo where he has served as Provost and Executive Vice President for Academic Affairs.
He received his Ph.D. in strategic management from The University of Texas at Arlington and holds an MBA from The University of Texas at Tyler.
The other finalists were the provost at the University of Maryland Eastern Shore and Tressel, who's been an Akron administrator for two years. He took the job after being forced out at Ohio State following a scandal in which players sold memorabilia for cash and tattoos.
