Two people dead after head-on accident in Akron

AKRON, Ohio - Two people are dead after a car accident in Akron.

Akron Police and the Summit County Medical Examiner are investigating the double fatal accident that happened around 10:50 p.m. Friday at the intersection of Ley Drive and Waterloo Road.

According to the Summit County Medical Examiner's Office, Billie Andears, 38, of Barberton, and Ryan Swiger, 21, of Akron, died in the crash.

Police said Swiger was heading north on Ley Drive in a Cadillac STS and was making a left turn onto Waterloo when Andears, who was heading east on Waterloo driving a Chevrolet Prizm, went left of center and struck Swiger's car head-on.

Swiger's car spun before flipping and he was partially ejected.

Police said both drivers were killed on impact.

The two passengers in Andears' car, a 39-year-old Barberton woman and Canton man, were  taken to area hospitals. Both are in the intensive care units in very serious condition.

Police said none of the four involved in the crash were wearing seatbelts.
