AKRON, Ohio - Two people were discovered dead in an Akron driveway Thursday morning.
The bodies were found in front of a house in the 1100 block of Grant Street around 8 a.m., Akron police said. The victims had suffered gunshot wounds and were pronounced dead at the scene.
Akron police said eight people have been shot in five days and six people died.
Relatives told NewsChannel5 the victims are Erica Singleton, 28, and Ernest Thomas Jr., 31. Relatives did not know if they were friends of if they were dating.
Cpt. Daniel Zampelli said police believe the double homicide is related to another shooting that happened in the same area six hours earlier. According to Zampelli, the 24-year-old victim was taken to Akron General Hospital and is listed in serious condition. Police have identified him as Patrick Griffin.
"We feel there is a very good possibility this is drug-related, but we can't say for sure," Zampelli said.
While Akron police do not believe the murders are connected to two other deaths earlier in the week, they are not ruling out the possibility. On Tuesday, Sara Scott, 43, of Akron, and Donald Golden, 63, of New Philadelphia, were shot and killed inside a house on Mercer Avenue in Akron. According to Akron police, there were no signs of a break in.
In another unrelated shooting, just after 10 p.m. on Wednesday, police were called to the 700 block of Roselle Avenue for a gunshot victim. Tramein Walker, 27, was taken to Akron General Medical Center, where he died as a result of his injuries. Police have issued a warrant for 28-year-old Christopher Meadows.
