Troopers: Bicyclist seriously injured after crash with Canton City Fire truck

CANTON, Ohio - The Ohio State Highway Patrol is investigating after a Canton City Fire truck and bicyclist crashed at the intersection of 25th Street and Fulton Road NW early Wednesday morning.

Troopers said the crash happened at about 2:56 a.m. when a bicyclist going westbound on Fulton Road failed to stop for a red light and was struck by Canton City Fire truck No. 9, which went through a green light to turn northbound onto 25th Street NW.

The bicyclist suffered serious injuries and was taken to Mercy Medical Center where he underwent surgery, according to troopers. His condition is unknown at this time.

The State Patrol said the bicyclist was wearing dark-colored clothing and had no identification on him at the time of the crash. Authorities have not yet identified the man.

The fire truck, not in emergency response, was returning to the department's Station No. 4 at the intersection of Cleveland Avenue and 25th Street NW after responding to a crash on Fulton Road and I-77.

An investigation into the crash is ongoing.
