AKRON, Ohio - A few thousand people took part in the American Heart Association's Annual Akron Heart Walk Saturday morning at the University of Akron.
The event is held every year to help bring awareness to heart disease. According to the American Heart Association, 2,200 people die from cardiovascular diseases each day in the United States.
The participants started just after 10 a.m. and walked their way through the University of Akron campus before ending the walk inside Infocision Stadium.
Ashley Stow walked with her family and friends in memory of her dad, Paul Marshall Jr., who died in January of a heart attack at just 46-years-old. Stow said this was the first year participating, " We just want to get out here and just spread the word that it doesn't matter how old you are, anything can happen."
Attendees were also able to take part in health screenings and receive health and nutritional information.
