Rib, White and Blue Festival in Downtown Akron

AKRON, Ohio - The coals are hot, the ribs are on the grill and crowds are growing. It's the annual Rib, White and Blue Festival in Downtown Akron.

Pat Nelson, of Big Boned BBQ, was last year's winner for Best Rib. He said the sauce isn't what makes his ribs so good. "The secret here is the rub we put on it.",brags Nelson. "It's got 36 herbs and spices in all."

Smokin Joe's BBQ decided to give out free samples to attract the crowds to his cash register.

"Remember we sell no swine before it's time, and the ribs have been smoking so long, they need to go to rehab," said Lamarr Marshall.

The fireworks show should start at about 9:45 p.m. on July 4.

The festival will continue through Saturday July 6 and admission is free.
