Officials said the officers were in a police cruiser heading south on South Main Street at about 11 p.m.

The officers were in the left lane, and a 2002 Honda Civic was in the middle lane, according to police.

The driver of the Honda attempted to turn left onto East Crosier Street and hit the front of the police cruiser, officials said.

The collision forced the police cruiser to fishtail, and police said it struck a utility pole, deploying both airbags onto the officers.

The officers were taken to Akron General Medical Center, where they were treated and released with minor injuries.

The driver and passenger of the Honda were not injured. The driver of the Honda was ticketed for an improper turn.
