AKRON, Ohio - A 28-year-old Akron father is facing multiple charges after police said he admitted to driving drunk and being high on marijuana and crashing into a tree with a child in the back seat.
Jermaine Cody Sr., 28, is charged with driving under the influence, child endangering and more.
Officers driving along Copley Road said they noticed a vehicle hit a tree at Mercer. When they stopped to see if anyone needed help, authorities said Cody took off, ran several red lights and then headed the wrong way on a one-way street.
Cody also hit another vehicle before a police car stopped him to end the chase, authorities reported.
The child in Cody's car was taken to Akron Children's Hospital. Police said Cody admitted to drinking alcohol and smoking marijuana before driving.
