AKRON, Ohio - Northeast Ohio is getting a big economic boost out of the Bridgestone Invitational golf tournament this weekend.
The tournament, with the final round played Sunday in Akron, annually attracts 80,000 fans.
A study in 2011 estimated the tournament adds $21 million to the regional economy.
In addition, the tournament gets global TV coverage. Executive director Don Padgett with the World Golf Championships-Bridgestone Invitational tells the Akron Beacon Journal ( bit.ly/15rDZwl ) the tournament is televised in more than 200 countries.
He says the more than 400 credentialed journalists covering the tournament from around the world provide a chance to show off what he calls "the great things that are happening in Akron."
