AKRON, Ohio - With LeBron James and the Miami Heat one win away from the NBA Championship, a large portion of the Akron community is excited, hoping to finally see one of their own win a ring.
Whether you love him or hate him, many people in James's hometown think he can do no wrong.
"He's Akron born, he made the decision and we are going to follow him just like any parent would, you know," said Audley McGill , the recreation supervisor at the Summit Lake Community Center.
Signs there say "Home of LeBron James." The center even held a preview party for the "More Than a Game" movie where McGill said LeBron fed the crowd of about 15,000 people and put on an exhibition basketball game.
McGill said Lebron gives a lot to the kids at the community center that is not done in front of television cameras.
Jerry Rowland from Akron's Ed Davis Community Center has known LeBron since he was a young boy. He says he didn't like 'The Decision' but believes LeBron would handle it differently now.
A few years ago LeBron donated a new gym floor at the center. Rowland said that when in James is in town he often stops in and spends time with the kids.
Rowland wants LeBron to win his first championship tonight, but as a basketball fan, would like it to go to game seven. He said he believe the Heat will win because Lebron has become the team leader and improved his game, but ultimately the role players have stepped up their game to complement LeBron.
