A man has died after getting hit by a car on Interstate 77 after stopping and getting out of his car.
The 87-year-old man was on Interstate 77 southbound near the Vernon Odom Boulevard exit ramp just after noon on Wednesday when he parked his vehicle on the side of the roadway and got out to pick up his license plate after it had fallen off.
The man was struck by a car in the high-speed lane and was killed instantly.
The Akron Police Department Traffic Bureau is currently investigating the incident and the Summit County Medical Examiner's office will conduct an autopsy.
