Man charged as faking general waives Ohio hearing

AKRON, Ohio - A man charged with trying to land a six-figure job by faking a background as an Army general has waived a preliminary hearing in Ohio.

A federal magistrate judge ordered Randall Thomas Keyser of Barboursville, W.Va., held without bond after he waived a preliminary hearing and detention hearing Tuesday in Akron.

Prosecutors say he applied for a job with an Ohio company pretending to be a major general with references including the Army chief of staff.

An FBI affidavit accuses Keyser of defrauding an Akron construction company so he could get a $175,000 job for which he wasn't qualified and get payment for travel expenses for an interview.

The company became suspicious and contacted the FBI. Keyser was arrested last week and charged with wire fraud.
