You might say he messed with the wrong woman! A Cuyahoga Falls man accused of trying to rob an Akron bar had the tables turned on him thanks to a quick-thinking, feisty bartender.
While talking with a customer about 3:15 Thursday afternoon, Vickie Hummel spotted trouble right away. "I see through the window over there, I see a guy with a mask and hat, sunglasses and I looked at her and went something's about the happen," Hummel said.
Moments later it happened. A man burst through the door at Ido Bar and Grill. "And he come in and I was kind of puzzled because he held up a rolling pin and said, 'give me the money out of the cash register.' I said, seriously?," she recalled.
The bar's policy is to give up the money, but Vickie said she wasn't forking it over, especially over a rolling pin. "I grew up with four brothers. I had to fend for myself," Hummel said. She added that she wasn't going to go down without a fight.
The fight was then on, although it was one-sided. Vickie grabbed half a dozen glasses and pelted the would be robber with them, while her only customer jumped in. "As I'm doing that she grabs a knife out of his pocket, a big butcher knife out of his back pocket," she said.
Hearing all the commotion, the cooks rushed out from the kitchen and made that would be robber wished he'd never stepped inside the bar. "He was bloody, he was a mess. They beat the crap out of him, when I say they beat the crap out of him, they beat the crap out of him," Hummel stated.
Vickie says the kitchen staff then dragged the man outside until police arrived. Akron police arrested 32-year-old Foster Ball of Cuyahoga Falls. He is charged with aggravated robbery, felonious assault and carrying a concealed weapon.

One man picked the wrong bar to rob.
Akron police said around 3:30 p.m. Thursday, officers responded to the Ido Bar and Grille, located on South Main Street, for a report of a robbery.
The caller said a man entered the bar wearing a black mask, pulled the door closed behind him, and approached the bar. The man demanded money from the register, but the female bartender refused to give it to him. The man then pulled out a rolling pin and pointed it at the bartender, again demanding money. The bartender began to throw drinking glasses at the suspect as she yelled for help from the kitchen staff.
Police said a woman saw a large butcher knife in the suspect's back pocket. She grabbed the knife and threw it behind the bar. Two men from the kitchen staff came out to the bar and helped the bartender. A fight between the bar staff and the suspect ended with the suspect being held down until police arrived.
Officers arrested the suspect, identified as Foster E. Ball, 32, of Cuyahoga Falls. Ball was charged with aggravated robbery, felonious assault, and carrying a concealed weapon.
Ball had a warrant out for his arrest for inducing panic and making false alarm.
Ball was booked in the Summit County Jail.
