AKRON, Ohio - On Saturday the LeBron James Family Foundation (LJFF) kicked off another school year with its second annual 'I PROMISE' Family Reunion BBQ event celebrating the program's current Wheels for Education (WFE) students and welcomed a brand new class of third graders.
"When we first started this program, the goal was to keep these kids in school and not let them turn into statistics. Now that we've grown to more than 700 students, I am so proud to see the commitment these kids are making to their school work, their families, and themselves," said James. "It's exciting to see the positive impact the Wheels for Education program is having in the Akron community, and I look forward to watching it continue to grow each year."
In addition to an inspiring pep talk from LeBron and a live performance by popular group H3 (Healthy Hip Hop), the students also received their school uniforms, back pack tags and brand new bikes to help them
Following the Family Reunion BBQ, James will unveil the brand new St. Vincent-St. Mary's fall sports team uniforms in an evening fashion show. As part of the promise he made to his high school alma mater, James is outfitting all STVM student athletes with Nike team uniforms and building a brand new, state-of-the-art gymnasium that is scheduled to be completed this fall.
