Bond will remain at $5 million for the burglary suspect accused of shooting and killing a Canton police K9.
Kelontre Barefield went in front of the judge Friday via closed circuit television after spending the week being treated at Aultman Hospital.
Barefield, 22, is facing charges of assaulting or harassing a police dog, having weapons under disability, discharge of a firearm on or near a prohibited premises and felonious assault on an officer after he shot and killed K9 Jethro over the weekend.
Jethro responded with officers to a burglary call at Fisher Foods on Harrison Avenue SW around 1 a.m. Saturday.
Barefield allegedly confronted Jethro and fired several shots. Jethro was struck three times.
Officers fired back, hitting Barefield. He was found nearby in a field with a gunshot wound to the leg.
Authorities announced Sunday morning that Jethro had died from his injuries.
Barefield was given $5 million bond while he was still in the hospital. The judge continued that bond Friday. He is scheduled to appear in court again on Jan. 22.
Jethro was laid to rest Thursday—what would have been his 3rd birthday.
