AKRON, Ohio - “Is there a doctor in the house?”
You’ve heard it in movies and on television. It’s a well-worn trope. But on Wednesday, one Akron courtroom played host to such a drama.
During a cross-examination in a jury trial at Akron Municipal Court, a witness stopped mid-testimony, tilted his head backwards and began to lose consciousness as a seizure started.
That’s when, according to a news release, Dr. Jovan Laskovski leapt out of the jury and to the side of the ailing witness until paramedics arrived.
The witness sustained no further injuries.
Judge Joy Malek Oldfield praised Laskovski’s selflessness and his dedication to his “civic duty.”
Laskovski graduated from the University of Akron at age 19 and Northeast Ohio Medical University at 23. He’s an orthopedic surgeon at the Crystal Clinic.
