Jim Tressel 1 of 3 finalists for University of Akron President job

AKRON, Ohio - Jim Tressel is one of three finalists for the University of Akron presidency, the school said today.

Tressel, Executive Vice President for Student Success at the University of Akron, is up against Ronald Nykiel, Ph.D., the provost and Vice President of Academic Affairs at the University of Maryland Eastern Shore; and Scott L. Scarborough, Ph.D., Provost and Executive Vice President for Academic Affairs at the University of Toledo.

Tressel resigned amid NCAA violations  from a tattoo-parlor scandal that sullied the image of one of the country's top football programs at Ohio State University in 2011. Tressel was head coach for ten years, and worked as coach at Youngstown State before that.

Tressel has also applied for the presidency at Youngstown State.
