CANTON, Ohio - Canton police confirm that an inmate who escaped from police custody has been located. He was found on 1400 Shorb Avenue NW in Canton just after 1 a.m. on Tuesday.
Canton police and U.S. Marshals were actively on the hunt for Michael Houghton after they say he escaped from a prisoner van while being transported to the Stark County Jail from a court hearing.
Houghton, 28, escaped Monday around 4 p.m. Police believe he slipped a handcuff off and used it to open the door of the vehicle he was in.
Houghton was originally arrested on domestic violence charges, and Canton police say he attempted to escape last week but was caught.
This is not the first time Houghton escaped while in the custody of Canton police. On Sept. 15, 2006, a warrant was issued for Houghton's arrest after he escaped from the Canton City Jail on a robbery arrest, according to Stark County court documents.
