AKRON, Ohio - While his on-field performance remains to be seen, we all know by now that Cleveland Browns rookie quarterback Johnny Manziel likes to have a good time. So when Nik Pappas at Pav's Creamery in Akron was challenged to create a flavor for Manziel on a local radio sports talk show, he felt that using a little Cleveland bourbon whiskey made perfect sense.
"It's a vanilla based flavor, with orange zest and a healthy shot of Cleveland bourbon in it, and voila! You've got yourself "How Ya Doin' Johnny" ice cream," said Pappas. The name refers to a catch phrase used on WKNR radio's Really Big Show sports talk program.
The flavor, available exclusively in Acme Fresh Markets, has proven to be extremely popular.
Pappas said "So far we're blown away by the response. We put it in Acme a week and a half ago and instantly sold out. The corporation called us.. and put in a huge order last weekend." More than 500 pints of "How Ya Doin' Johnny?" were sold in less than a week's time.
Now, with the return of King James , Pappas and his family are putting their creativity into a flavor for LBJ. "We're thinking lemon blueberry jam?"
Pav's is well known through the Portage Lakes area, serving imaginative flavors in ice cream, custard and frozen yogurt. Voted Best Ice Cream four years in a row in the Akron Beacon Journal's reader's poll, Pav's new flavors may be hard to beat. Let's hope the same for the Cavs and the Browns!
The "How Ya Doin' Johnny" ice cream sells for $3.99 per pint.
