Goodyear building in Akron nominated for historic register

AKRON, Ohio - A state board has nominated Goodyear Tire & Rubber Co.'s former headquarters for inclusion on the National Register of Historic Places.

The Akron Beacon Journal ( http://bit.ly/13ZwL23 ) reports that the Ohio Historic Site Advisory Board approved the nomination Friday in Columbus. It was one of eight nominations by the board.

The state board will recommend that the Ohio's State Historic Preservation officer forward the nominations to the Keeper of the National Register of Historic Places for consideration.

The oldest part of Goodyear's former headquarters building dates to 1909. The building was used for manufacturing until 1962 and opened as the company's world headquarters in 1973.

Goodyear finished moving workers from the old headquarters to a new $160 million complex in May.
