Five people forced from their burning Akron apartments

AKRON, Ohio - An Akron firefighter was injured and 5 adults displaced after an apartment home caught fire just before 11 p.m. Tuesday night on Delmar Avenue.

According to Akron firefighters the fire started in the basement of the four unit apartment house and quickly spread to the attic.

The five people living in the four units were able to escape the fire but 3 cats had to be rescued by firefighters, the cats are said to be doing fine.

The injured firefighter was taken to a local hospital complaining of chest pains, his condition is unknown.

The Red Cross is assisting those displaced by the fire.

No cause has been determined.
