A former treasurer with a Parent, Teacher, Student Association is facing felony charges, accused of stealing thousands from the volunteer organization that supports an Akron high school.
According to Akron police, 42-year-old Stacy Walker turned herself into police on Thursday.
Walker was the treasurer of the PTSA at Firestone High School Community Learning Center.
Police say she forged checks from the association and deposited them into her own bank account.
The transactions were made between December 2015 and this July. Over that time, $6,671.55 went missing, according to Lt. Rick Edwards.
Walker is charged with theft and forgery. She was booked into the Summit County Jail and released.
There was no answer at Walker's home when News 5 crew knocked this afternoon.
Kathy Johnson, the former Firestone PTSA President, said discrepancies were discovered during an audit this year and Akron police were contacted.
"It is my understanding that Stacy is cooperating with the authorities and has made a full confession," Johnson said. "The next step will be working with the prosecutor to arrange for restitution of the approximately $6,671 in funds that were taken so they can go back toward the student programming in which they were originally intended."
