NORTH CANTON, Ohio - Diebold has selected a site in Green to move its global headquarters campus to.
The software and security products maker selected a 55 acre site adjacent to I-77, near the intersection of Massillon Road and Town Park Boulevard.
Once the site passes environmental inspections, Diebold hopes to break ground sometime in 2013. Construction is expected to last two or three years.
"This is another exciting step for Diebold in our journey to building a truly world-class presence right here in Northeast Ohio," said Thomas Swidarski, Diebold president and CEO in a news release. "Our preferred site in Green provides us with the characteristics we coveted in a location, as well as continuity and convenience for our associates and a first-class presentation for our customers."
The new headquarters will house about 1,500 employees in areas including sales, marketing research and development.
"Canton Mayor William Healy and his staff were very proactive with us and did a great job putting together a very compelling, aggressive plan for a potential site. About 70 percent of our local associates live in Stark County, and we take our 140-year presence in the Canton area very seriously. However, our extensive evaluation showed that the company's needs would best be met by everything offered by our preferred site in Green...We remain committed to northeast Ohio, and look forward to continue making a positive contribution to this region," explained Swidarski.
The new campus is about four miles north of the company's current headquarters in North Canton.
"After many months of work, we are pleased that Diebold is committing to build its new global headquarters in the heart of Green," said Green Mayor Dick Norton. " Diebold will be a major focal point in Green's town center."
