An Akron teenager woke up early Friday to find a man standing over her friend.

According to Akron police, when the 18-year-old girl woke up around 7 a.m., she saw a stranger standing just steps away.

The teen told police she was sleeping in the basement of a home on Glenmount Avenue when she saw a man tapping on her 14-year-old friend's shoulder, telling her to wake up.

When the 18-year-old confronted the man, he said he "didn't take anything and he plays with kids in the neighborhood," according to the police report.

He then walked upstairs and ran out the back door.

The man—identified as 38-year-old Andrew Hayes—was arrested in the 400 block of Clinton Avenue.

Hayes was charged with burglary and booked into the Summit County Jail.

This was not Hayes' first run-in with police.

In April, Hayes was arrested by an off-duty police officerafter he allegedly followed the officer's wife home from the gym.

The woman called her husband after police said Hayes followed her to her home around 6 a.m. and pulled his car up next to hers.

He was charged with menacing, criminal trespassing and resisting arrest in that incident.
