Akron police sergeant charged in crash that seriously injured wife

An Akron police sergeant has been charged with aggravated vehicular assault and operating a vehicle while impaired in a crash that seriously injured his wife.

Sgt. Vince Yurick was driving his 2008 Ford Mustang GT in the 2100 block of Canterbury Circle on Aug. 7 when he lost control of his car and hit a tree.

According to Akron police, Yurick is charged with aggravated vehicular assault, operating a vehicle while impaired, operating a vehicle while impaired with an illegal alcohol limit, reckless operation, failure to control and speed in connection with the crash.

Yurick is scheduled for an arraignment hearing in Akron Municipal Court on Aug. 30. He is currently on paid administrative leave.
