Two men who police say are responsible for several area robberies are now in custody.

According to Akron police, Shaquille Anderson, 22, and Cameron McPhatter, 25, committed five robberies in Akron and one in Barberton in recent months.

The arrests come after a police chase around 10 p.m. Wednesday. The gun violence reduction team attempted to stop a Ford Crown Victoria at South Arlington Street and Concord Avenue after identifying it as the one used in recent robberies.

Police say Anderson, the driver, refused to pull over and led officers on a chase on South Arlington Street before crashing into a utility pole at South Jenkins Blvd.

Anderson then allegedly got out and fled on foot. He was caught after a short chase. Police say they found a handgun inside the car.

Akron police then identified McPhatter as the second suspect involved. He was arrested at his house without incident.

Anderson and McPhatter were charged with aggravated robbery and booked into the Summit County Jail.
