Akron officers injured in head-on crash on East Avenue

Both officers were responding to a burglary call

AKRON, Ohio - A head-on collision between a minivan and an Akron police cruiser Friday morning has left four people injured.

According to Akron police, a male and female officer were in the police car and their injuries appear non-life threatening. Both officers were traveling southbound on East Avenue while responding to a burglary call.

A 2000 Chrysler Town and Country van heading north on East Avenue attempted to turn left at Iona Avenue in front of the cruiser. Both vehicles collided just after 5:30 a.m.

Two males, a father and son, were in the minivan. All four people were taken to Akron hospitals with non-life threatening injuries.

The police officer driving has over six years of service with the department while the passenger has ten months of service, according to the police department.
