Akron Mayor Don Plusquellic faces foreclosure on his former home

AKRON, Ohio - A northeast Ohio mayor facing foreclosure on a house where he lived with a girlfriend says he didn't know the property was in arrears.

Akron Mayor Don Plusquellic says he moved out nearly four years ago, and his ex-girlfriend took over payments when they separated. He says he wasn't alerted before the foreclosure was filed last week and is considering his options.

The Akron Beacon Journal reports the pair bought the six-bedroom home for nearly $267,000 in 2008. The complaint from Wells Fargo bank accuses them of defaulting on payments beginning in April.

The newspaper reports a bank spokesman said he couldn't comment on the case.

Plusquellic says the house has been posted for sale twice in the past four years. The mayor now rents a downtown apartment.
