Akron Film+Pixel's Nightlight Cinema project on Kickstarter raises more than $20,000; aims for more

AKRON, Ohio - With less than a day left in their Kickstarter campaign, Akron Film+Pixel's Nightlight Cinema is pushing for another $2000.

But they reached their original goal--$12,000--in less than 96 hours.

According to the campaign, which has been supported by more than 210 people, Akron is one of the few cities of its size without an arthouse theater.

While Akron Film+Pixel have put together screenings at the Akron Art Museum, like the May 22 showing of "The Double" , organizers wanted the Rubber City to have a dedicated cinema.

The money they've already raised will help them buy cafe and box office equipment. Last year, the Knight Foundation granted the organization $120,000 to get the theater started.

As the Kickstarter campaign ends, Friday at 4 p.m., organizers are pushing to hit $22,000 to help them make sound improvements in the lobby and cafe area.

The Nightlight Cinema will be at 30 N. High Street in downtown Akron. Its opening night gala will be Saturday, June 28.
