AKRON, Ohio - What should the Akron Aeros be called? How about the Gum Dippers or Rubber Ducks? Or what about the Tire Jacks or the Vulcans?
Yeah, fans didn't think so, either.
The results of a re-branding contest are in – and the team's official name will stay Aeros. In fact, the old name won in a landslide against the four finalists mentioned above – by 67%.
"Our fans have spoken and we are excited to remain the Aeros," said Executive Vice President and Chief Operating Officer Jim Pfander in a news release. "It's exciting to see how passionate the fans were in keeping the Aeros name and we are all looking forward to another fantastic season of Akron Aeros baseball in just a few short months."
Five contestants in the contest won tickets to Aeros games. The grand prize winner was Kate Breth, 41, of Akron. She won season tickets for life. Four runners up each got a pair of tickets to all of the 71 home games next year: Don Lutes, 61, of Tallmadge; Angi Taylor, 36, of Akron; Raymond Romito, 27, of Copley; and Tara Kerscher, 35, of Cuyahoga Falls.
The Akron Aeros next home opener is Thursday, April 12, 2012 at Canal Park in Akron. Season tickets and mini plans are now available for the 2012 season. For more information visit the Aeros on-line at www.akronaeros.com .
