CANTON, Ohio - A Canton woman is facing charges after she left her two young children waiting in a car while she took off to use drugs.
The Canton Police Department said they were called to the 4700 block of Cleveland Avenue NW after bystanders witnessed a mother, identified as 29-year-old Valerie Weaver, take off for a nearby apartment complex, leaving her children behind in the car.
Police waited near the car for about 25 minutes until Weaver returned.
Weaver admitted to using heroin. Officers said they also recovered a hypodermic needle in some nearby bushes.
She was arrested and charged with felony tampering with evidence as well as misdemeanor counts of child endangering and possession of drug paraphernalia.
The children, ages 5 and 7, were placed in the custody of Stark County's Child Protective Services.
