CANTON, Ohio - A Canton man is facing several charges after a standoff with police late Saturday night while he held his child hostage.
Police said the incident occurred at the residence of 42-year-old Wendall Scott Williams in the 1300 block of Maryland Avenue SW.
The mother of Williams' child dropped off their 9-year-old daughter for a scheduled visitation earlier in the day.
When the mother returned to pick up the girl, Williams came out of the home with a shotgun, said he was not going to give his daughter back and went back inside.
Canton Police and the SWAT team responded to the home.
When Williams refused negotiations to come out the SWAT team entered the home and arrested Williams without incident.
The child was safely returned to the mother and police recovered a shotgun from the scene.
Williams was charged with domestic violence, inducing panic, obstructing official business and aggravated menacing and was booked into Stark County jail. His court date has not yet been set.
