AKRON, Ohio - A 14-year-old boy lead Akron police on a short high speed chase on South Hawkins Avenue before flipping the car he was driving Friday morning.
Police pulled the boy over at South Hawkins Avenue and Diagonal Road around 3:30 a.m. Friday for a traffic violation. As officers approached the car, the boy sped north on South Hawkins Avenue hitting speeds above 60 mph.
At the intersection of South Hawkins Avenue and Thurston Street, less than a mile from the original traffic stop, the boy attempted to make a right turn and flipped the car onto its roof, landing in a yard.
It was only after puling the boy from the car did police realize he was 14.
The boy was taken to an Akron hospital to be evaluated but police said he appeared to be uninjured.
The car the boy was driving was not reported stolen and police believed it belonged to a family member but were not sure of the relationship.
