$1,000 gas gift card raffled again to benefit cat shelter

Benefit for 280 cats in house

CONCORD TOWNSHIP, Ohio - $1,000 in gasoline is being raffled off in one week to benefit the 280 cats at Caroline's Kids Pet Rescue. The chance to win the gasoline gift card is a way to raise money for the local cat house.

The shelter is located in Concord Township in Lake County. It's a former single family home that has now been given over to hundreds of aging and sick felines.

Caroline's Kids Shelter Director Ellen Distler told newsnet5.com it costs upwards of $15,000 each month to operate the shelter. She said management is constantly looking for creative ways to raise funds.

"The raffles are some of the most well-received fundraisers that we do," Distler said. Previous prizes have included a big screen television and an airfare gift card.

Back in early April, an Elyria man won a similar gas card raffle, and more than $7,500 was collected to help the ctas. That winner also donated half of his prize to the sanctuary to help with transportation costs associated with the cats.

Next week's raffle drawing will be held on Friday, June 24. Anyone wishing to get in on the drawing can do so through the Caroline's Kids Pet Rescue website.

The website also explains other ways people can help the cats in the shelter -- many of whom have terminal feline illnesses, have been saved from abuse or neglect, or are old and unlikely to be adopted.

According to Distler, donations of cat food, cat litter, cleaning supplies, paper products, are needed. She said volunteer labor, service/repair/yard work and cash gifts are also welcome and appreciated.
