It's one of the most horrific cases the Lorain County Animal Emergency Center has ever seen.
Shot, stuck in a trap and infested with fleas a golden retriever was found in the woods, and vets say, he's far from out of them.
They've named him 'Chance' because the people at the hospital are determined to give him a second one.
"He'll be a three legged dog, but there's lots of three legged dogs out there," manager, Sarah Talbott said.
Talbott told News 5 Chance will go into surgery Monday night and will get at least one amputation, after being rushed to her hospital with a bullet in one leg and a coyote trap clamped around the other.
"It's very rare we would see something quite as horrific as this," Talbot said.
She posted photos on their Facebook page to try to connect to his owner, " He has no collar and no chip."
So, he is being treated as a stray and the hospital has decided to pay his way.
The care won't come cheap, at least $4,000 according to Talbott.
Animal lovers across Northeast Ohio are determined to help out, many sharing a GoFundMe page.
"The focus is making him better and giving him a chance at life," Talbot said.
